The Douro river is a long one: it is born on the Urbión mountain range and it flows to its outlet in Porto, where it meets the Atlantic ocean, after a 927 kilometer trip, 322 of which in Portuguese territory. We suggest some routes along this water course (once a violent one but nowadays tamed due to the numerous dams along its path, making it navigable) between Porto and the Spanish frontier. The landscape of the Alto Douro Wine Region, is classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Because of its nature, culture and wine, the north-American website “The Huffington Post” named Douro as the best fluvial touristic itinerary in Europe.
